Having worked in the industry for more than a decade, I have seen first-hand the impact fast-fashion is having on our environment and culture. Fast fashion may be cheap for consumers, but it comes at a steep cost to the earth. According to the UN Environment Programme, the fashion industry is the second largest consumer of water and is responsible for nearly 10% of global carbon emissions.
Nearly 85% of all textiles end up in landfills each year, and washing clothes releases the equivalent of 50 million plastic water bottles into our waterways and oceans each year. Salvador Clothing is handmade in Chicago, using mostly environmentally-conscious and durable fabrics including: organic cotton, TENCEL™, LENZING™ECOVERO™ , Designer Deadstock and Cupro. We hire local Chicago seamstresses and use eco-friendly labels and shipping materials.
